The Brief

Broadview was contacted by The Boathouse Café, as we came recommended by the Southsea Beach café after expressing they were looking into a new outdoor shading structure.

Having recently seen a dramatic increase in visitor numbers, The Boathouse Café was looking for a durable shading solution that would allow them to seat more customers all year round. Being in such an idyllic spot within Chichester Marina, the cafe was at maximum capacity, losing them important business.

The Boathouse Café is a part of the Ideal Collection, who own a handful of cafes, restaurants and pubs across the UK, including No.5 Bridge Street in Winchester and The Bugle Hamble in Southampton. Having previously worked with Ideal Collection before, the client trusted our years of expertise and were confident in our ability to deliver a high-quality installation.

The Broadview Solution

After a consultation, we recommended that a retractable Sunrain system would be most beneficial solution for their café. We undertook every aspect of the installation, including gaining approval from Chichester Marina and the local council for the design of the new structure.

The Sunrain structure has a watertight PVC roof that can be opened and closed using a Somfy remote control for easy operation. As a result, the client can cater to customers that want to dine al fresco with protection from UV rays or a sudden change in the weather.

Our designers also added retractable side screens using zip technology that have the benefit of providing additional privacy and protection against high winds for customers dining under the structure.

The three Bromic outdoor heaters we attached to the walls of the shading structure were perfectly placed to keep staff and customers warm during colder days and evenings. In accordance to the requirements from Chichester Marina, we also designed the cladding on the Sunrain outdoor structure to match the exterior of The Boathouse Café flawlessly.

The Result
